These Guys are Still Just Kids

Derrick Rose is suffering from tendonitis in his right knee, but says it won’t cause him to miss any time.  Roses’ draftmate, Michael Beasley also suffered an injury early last week.  Maybe the best thing for these draft picks is to take a month off between the stressful draft workouts and the beginning of training camp.  After all, these are young kids who have played a full college season, practiced on their own and worked out nonstop for pro scouts.  Let them heal up for a month before they do some real damage to themselves.

Saturday NBA News

Miami Heat’s Daequan Cook separated his left shoulder and will be sidelined for 2-4 weeks.  He will miss Miami’s upcoming summer league games.

Russell Westbrook and D.J. White signed multiyear contracts with the former Seattle Supersonics.  The rookie pay scale indicates that Westbrook should  make about $6 million in his first two years, while White should receive about $1.6 million for his first two years.  Westbrook ends up in a great situation with this young franchise.  With no real pressure this year, the Sonics may throw Westbrook on the court and just let him develop, which could really get him mature much quicker than some of his other draft mates.  Westbrook may be one of the few rookies that fantasy players should have on their roster.

James Posey is not happy with the Boston Celtics.  The Celtics gave Posey an offer less than the mid-level exception.  Even DeSagana Diop got a contract for the mid-level amount of roughly $5.8 million.  Posey may be on his way out of Boston, as there are probably several other teams, possibly the Lakers, that will give him the money he wants.

Chris Duhon agrees to deal with New York Knicks

Chris Duhon has verbally agreed to a two year deal with the New Yorks Knicks for the mid-level exception, valued at around $12 million.   The Knicks topped the 3 year, $10 million offer that Duhon had received from the Orlando Magic.  Sounds like Duhon did in fact have  his sights set on proving his worth to the world stating, “It’s a big stage, playing in New York.   It’s something every player in the NBA wants.”  We will see if he is still so happy when the New York media gets done with him.

Michael Beasley has, according to his blog, a very, very slight fracture of the sternum.  He will probably miss the Heat’s opening summer league game against Derrick Rose.  Hopefully, it isn’t anything as serious as the sternum fracture that Dwight Howard has, which has been bothering him for months and limited his involvement with the Olympic team.

Hope you all have a great Fourth of July.  I’m off to take my 5 year old to a cookout and some fireworks, see you tomorrow.

Baron Davis possibly headed to the Clippers

All the news reports I have seen this morning are reporting that Baron Davis has verbally committed to playing for the LA Clippers.  The LA Times reports his deal is to be 5 years for $65 million.  The Clippers are hoping this convinces Brand to re-sign, which could happen as soon as today.   If Brand does re-sign with the Clippers, it probably means the end of Corey Maggette in a Clippers uniform.  Al Thornton should get a big boost in value with Maggette departing.

In Golden State, it looks like Monta Ellis is now the man.  It is time to start moving him up the draft board for this season.  Golden State now needs to make a couple of moves and they have some money to spend.
