Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Carmelo Anthony suffered a sprained left ankle Sunday.  If Melo can’t go, Joey Graham will get the start.
  • Ron Artest is playing through plantar fasciitis.  Artest is having a rough month after suffering a concussion, elbow injury and now this.  Must be the shoes.
  • Jason Kidd missed Sunday due to personal reasons.  Roddy Beaubois got the extra minutes.
  • Erick Dampier missed Sunday with a left knee injury.
  • Jerryd Bayless is expected to play Monday.
  • J.R. Smith won’t be suspended.  I’d bench him anyway since he’s probably still in the doghouse.
  • Carlos Delfino deserves more playing time.  Put him on your watchlist.
  • Delonte West is out Monday.  Daniel Gibson should get the start.
  • Javaris Crittenton has been charged with two misdemeanors relating the the incident with Gilbert Arenas.  One of the charges will likely be dropped, with Crittenton pleading guilty to the other for probation.
  • Joakim Noah is a gametime decision Monday with plantar fasciitis.  He received a pain relieving injection, but I’d keep him benched.  Brad Miller might get the start if Noah can’t go, but he’s suffering with a sore knee.
  • David West is questionable for Monday.  Darius Songaila might get another start if West can’t go.
  • Derrick Rose is suffering from the flu.  Avoid him in daily cash games today.
  • Jamario Moon says he’ll play Monday.
  • Nicolas Batum will return tonight for Portland.

Fantasy Basketball Daily News: The Iverson All-Star Conundrum Edition (1/23/10)

All-Star voting has really put Allen Iverson in a tough spot.  The fans voted him in and Iverson said he will honor that vote and play.  I don’t think there is a single true basketball fan that thinks Iverson actually deserves this honor, but what can he do?  If he snubs the All-Star game it just pisses off the fans who voted for him and hurts the game overall.  If he plays then it just shows that the NBA All-Star game is a joke, which also hurts the league.  Don’t get mad at Iverson, get mad at the incompetent fans who voted him in.  The only real solution here is to play this season out and change the voting procedure this offseason.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Monta Ellis suffered an ankle injury Friday.   He’s out Saturday.
  • Raymond Felton suffered an ankle injury Friday.
  • David West suffered an ankle injury Friday and is questionable for Saturday.
  • Sebastian Telfair will be out 4-6 weeks with a thigh injury.
  • Kevin Garnett returned from knee problems and was able to log 30 minutes.
  • Delonte West suffered a broken finger Friday.  Daniel Gibson might be in line for a few starts.
  • News on the Gilbert Arenas suspension should come by Wednesday.  I think he’s probalby done for he season, but hang on to him until Wednesday just to be safe.
  • Shawn Marion suffered a cut on his right hand that caused him to leave the game Friday.  Check his next gametime status.
  • Tayshaun Prince can’t seem to get along with John Kuester.
  • Leandro Barbosa needs surgery on his right wrist, but will try to play through the condition.
  • Chris Paul got poked in the eye Friday, but should be fine for Saturday’s game.
  • Devin Harris will be out Saturday with his aggravated wrist injury.  Keyon Dooling should get the start.
  • Nate Robinson suffered a strained right hamstring Friday.
  • Nene is dealing with a sore shoulder and might not play full minutes Saturday.  Be careful starting him in daily cash games.
  • Ronnie Turiaf returned for Golden State last night and could get decent minutes for a depleted Warrior squad.

Fantasy Basketball Daily News: NBA Schedule Complaint Edition (1/22/10)

Why doesn’t the NBA balance their schedule so that there are an equal number of games every night?   A couple of days a week there are only 2 games and on other days there are 13 games.   Yeah, I understand the TNT TV contract, but I can’t possibly watch 13 games at once and I get bored with only a single game on.  Not to mention that fantasy basketball really sucks on those days with only two games.  It’s like I have to skip an entire day for my stats addiction and lately it seems that I always have other things going on on the nights when there are 13 games on the schedule.   Also, playing daily cash games with only two games on the schedule is nearly impossible because everyone ends up with the same players on their team.  Someone get David Stern on the phone.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Eric Gordon (sprained toe) and Sebastian Telfair (groin) both missed for the Clippers last night.   Gordon may be back by Sunday, however Telfair may be out for awhile.
  • Brandon Roy is going to miss the next two games (maybe four)  for Portland with a hamstring injury.  Jerryd Bayless should get the start.  Steve Blake should also see an increase in minutes.
  • Mo Williams missed last night with a shoulder injury and reports are that he’s going to miss 4-6 weeks.  Delonte West got the start, but he injured his finger late in the game and I’m not sure how serious it is.   Daniel Gibson would probably get the start if West can’t go.  West also has other issues which make him undependable, so be careful starting him in daily cash games.
  • John Salmons will return from the flu tonight for Chicago.
  • Robin Lopez could get a chance to keep the starting center spot in Phoenix.  Teams have figured out Channing Frye and his one trick pony three point shooting act.  Phoenix needs better rebounding from it’s center and Lopez delivers.
  • Kevin Garnett is set to play against Portland on Friday.  I’d leave him benched for this one just to be safe.
  • Kevin Love says he’ll play Friday.  He’s been suffering from strep throat.
  • Indiana is considering changing their lineup, sending either Roy Hibbert or Troy Murphy to the bench.  I’d bet on Hibbert getting some bench time since he’s usually there anyway due to foul trouble.  Playing him less would allow him to go full speed when he’s in and not worry about the fouls.

Fantasy Basketball Daily News (1/21/10)

Only two games tonight:  Lakers at Cavs 8:00 pm EST and the Clippers at Denver at 10:30 pm EST.

  • Josh Howard missed Wednesday with a stomach virus.
  • Al Thornton returned from a sprained ankle and was able to play
  • John Salmons missed Wednesday with the flu.
  • Eric Gordon suffered a toe injury against the Bulls.
  • Richard Jefferson returned after missing a game with a sore back.
  • Lou Williams found himself on the bench again for the fourth quarter against Portland.  Jrue Holiday picked up the extra minutes due to his defense.
  • Jerry Stackhouse played 17 minutes for Milwaukee putting up 3pts/5reb/4ast.
  • Carlos Delfino got a start for Milwaukee sending Ersan Ilyasova to the bench.
  • Josh Howard missed Wednesday with the flu.  Jason Terry got the start.
  • Richard Hamilton returned after missing a game with the flu.
  • Leandro Barbosa got a start Wednesday, but only played 19 minutes.  So much talent,  just no opportunity.
  • It’s looking like Robin Lopez might replace Channing Frye for good in the starting lineup.   Grab Lopez if he’s still on your waiver wire.
  • Brandon Roy aggravated his hamstring injury and said he’ll probably miss at least two games.  Jerryd Bayless should pick up the starts.
  • Kevin Love missed his second game with strep throat.  Check his gametime status for Friday.
  • Nick Collison missed his second straight game with a concussion.
  • Mo Williams is out tonight for Cleveland with a shoulder injury.
  • Kevin Martin fell hard on his previously injured left wrist, but seemed to be ok.  Check his status just to make sure there is no residual problem.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Mo Williams suffered a strained shoulder against the Raptors but played through it.  He should be fine, but be safe and check his next gametime status.
  • Hedo Turkoglu has been a huge disappointment this season and it doesn’t appear that he is going to get much better this year.  He’s barely good enough that you can’t cut him for anything better on the waiver wire.
  • Tyler Hansbrough missed again with is ear infection.  It’s becoming a chronic problem.
  • Most of the Heat starters got the fourth quarter off last night and should be a little fresher for their game tonight at Charlotte.
  • The Chicago Bulls are being hit hard by the flu bug right now and it’s probably best to avoid everyone on the team for a few days.
  • Check Richard Jefferson’s status gametime tonight, he missed Monday with back spasms.
  • Baron Davis missed practice Tuesday due to illness.  Check his status.
  • Donte Greene will start tonight for Sacramento taking the place of Omri Casspi.
  • Jon Brockman will start tonight for Sacramento taking the place of Spencer Hawes.
  • Brandon Roy says he’ll play Wednesday.   Check it before gametime.  If Roy can’t go, Jerryd Bayless should get the start.
