Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes 11/1/12

The Lakers dropped their second game in as many nights and everyone is in a panic.  They’ve got Steven Nash, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard, so the world can just chill, I think everything will be just fine with that group after the first month.  Who’s going to challenge them for their playoff spot anyway?

Indiana 90 @ Toronto 88

David West had 25 points and could be a great bounce back candidate after coming back slow last season from knee surgery.
Paul George had 14 points and a huge 15 rebounds.   Pretty good rebound production from the guard spot.  He also chipped in 5 assists.
Roy Hibbert had 14pts/9reb and 5 blocks in a great fantasy matchup against the weak interior of the Raptors.
George Hill is still suffering from his hip injury and looks a step slow.  Be patient with him, he still managed to play 33 minutes.

Jonas Valanciunas had an impressive first game with 12pt/10reb.
Kyle Lowry looked totally healthy going for 21pt/7reb/8ast.
Jose Calderon got significant minutes at SG and could be a great fantasy pickup if he’s going to see time there.
Landry Fields was disappointing and there may be times this season when the Raptors move DeMar DeRozan to SF, which really hurts Fields’ minutes.

Denver 75 @ Philadelphia 84

Kenneth Faried only got 17 minutes in this one and that is pretty scary for fantasy owners.  Not sure why this happened, but keep an eye on Faried.
Andre Iguodala didn’t statistically look much different from his days in Philly going for 11pt/4reb/4ast/2stl.
Kosta Koufos and JaVale McGee are killing each other’s fantasy value.  Koufos got 30 minutes and put up 6pt/9reb, while McGee got 18 minutes and went for 4pt/7reb.

Jrue Holiday is really going to break out this season, especially if he keeps getting anything like the 41 minutes against Denver.  14pt/6reb/11ast.
Spencer Hawes isn’t dead yet.  He showed some fantasy promise going for 16pt/12reb with 5 blocks.  If you want to gamble on Hawes, you better do it now as he will become a waiver wire gem with a few more nights like this.
Jason Richardson got 37 minutes and filled the stat sheet with 10pt/4reb/2ast.  He also had 4 steals and 3 blocks.

Houston 105 @ Detroit 96

James Harden got 44 minutes and had a monster game going for 37 points, 6 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals.  He’s the man in Houston.
Omer Asik has worked on his offensive game going 5 of 6 for 12 points.
Jeremy Lin had 12 points and 8 assists, 4 turnovers.

Greg Monroe was limited by Asik, but managed 14 points, 8 rebounds.  He’s a great source of steals for a big man picking up 3 more last night.
Andre Drummond needs to play.  He got 13 minutes and put up 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and a block.
Kyle Singler could be a fantasy sleeper.  When the Pistons realize they are going nowhere this year I’d expect Tayshaun Prince and Jason Maxiell to hit the bench while Drummond and Singler get some much needed experience.

Sacramento 87 @ Chicago 93

DeMarcus Cousins got a technical and then he got benched for most of the fourth quarter.  I hope his immaturity issues aren’t coming back.
Isaiah Thomas and Aaron Brooks are going to end up in a timeshare, which kills both their fantasy values.  Thomas got 25 minutes, Brooks got 23.
Marcus Thornton is coming off the bench, but still got 32 minutes which was plenty of time to launch 15 shots.

Luol Deng had a terrible shooting night going 3 for 13 and you have to wonder how long it’s going to be before the injured wrist rumors start.  Might be a good opportunity to scare an opposing owner into a trade.
Joakim Noah had a huge game going for 23pt/10reb.  More impressive were the 5 steals and 3 blocks.
Richard Hamilton led the Bulls with 16 shot attempts and this could be a trend.  He’s a nice waiver wire grab.

San Antonio 99 @ New Orleans 95

Manu Ginobili missed this one with back problems.  Fantasy owners should be very concerned.
DeJuan Blair looks pretty worthless for fantasy owners this season.  He got a DNP, coach’s decision.  Time to dump him for a hot waiver wire pickup.
Kawhi Leonard picked up right where he left off last year going for 19pt/7reb with 5 steals.  He’s a great keeper pick.

Anthony Davis had an impressive first game going for 21pt/7reb.
Eric Gordon is out indefinitely with the knee injury.  I think there’s a lot more going on here than just the knee issue.  It wouldn’t be surprising to see a trade later this season, but he’s got to get back on the court first to increase his trade value.
Austin Rivers got the start for Gordon, but was not impressive going 1 for 9.
Ryan Anderson came off the bench and got 29 minutes putting up 11pt/5 reb with only 1 three.
Al-Farouq Aminu had a big game going for 17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks.  You can gamble on a waiver wire claim, but don’t expect anything like this consistently from him.

Dallas 94 @ Utah 113

Darren Collison had another solid game going for 17 points, 7 assists.
Eddy Curry blew his chance again.  He was parked on the bench with only 8 minutes.
Vince Carter got another 12 shot attempts and is looking like the end of the bench reserve if you need SG help.
Jae Crowder had a tough shooting night going 3 for 11, two of which were threes.

Marvin Williams may be making a fantasy comeback and might be on your waiver wire.  He had 21 points on just 13 shots.
Derrick Favors only got 18 minutes, putting up 6pt/10reb.
Utah really spread the minutes around with 10 players getting at least 14 minutes of action.

Golden State 87 @ Phoenix 85

David Lee had terrible shooting night going 2 for 16.
Andrew Bogut managed 18 minutes, which is a good start and a little hope for fantasy owners.
Stephen Curry went 2 for 14 with only 3 assists.
Klay Thompson went 4 of 7 from three point range.
Jarrett Jack had 10 points and 7 assists and makes a great waiver wire pickup and a must handcuff for Curry.

Michael Beasley ignored the green light Phoenix gave him, taking 9 shots and hitting only 2 of them.
Luis Scola has new life after escaping Houston.  He put up a solid 15 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks.
Goran Dragic had 17pt/6reb/8ast, only 3 turnovers.

Memphis 92 @ LA Clippers 101

Rudy Gay had an injury scare in the first half, but returned to finish the game with 25 points.  He should be fine for his next start.
Zach Randolph looked totally recovered from his knee injury posting 15pt/16reb.
Marc Gasol desn’t get enough respect.  He posted his usual 20 points, 7 rebounds and a big 5 assists from the center spot.

Blake Griffin had a tough game going for 11pt/7reb with 4 turnovers.
Chris Paul needs to shoot more, he took just 10 shots putting up 12 points with 12 assists.
Jamal Crawford was his usual gunner self picking up 29 points on only 14 shots.  He was 3 of 7 from three point range.

LA Lakers 106 @ Portland 116

Dwight Howard went 15 of 19 from the line.  He finished with 33pt/14reb.
Steve Nash suffered a leg bruise and is questionable for the next game.  Look for Steve Blake to get the start if Nash can’t go.
Kobe turned it over 7 times Wednesday.  He led the Lakers with 30 points on 20 shots.

Damian Lillard is making his case early for Rookie of the Year with 23 points and 11 assists.
Portland has absolutely no depth, which means big fantasy production from the starting five.  Lillard scored 23, Matthews 22, Batum 26, Aldridge 19 and Hickson 13.
