Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (2/26/11)

Friday’s Daily Fantasy Tournament Results

I had absolutely no luck in the Fanduel.com $4500 or the Fanduel.com $1000 fantasy basketball tournaments last night.  My friend headChopper took down the $4500 tourney, so congrats on that one HC.   Another friend and great daily fantasy player, Kaiseroll13, took second in the $4500, while another top daily player, PrimeTime420 took third.

Two guys that I don’t really know, jl9000 and NFCNorthChamps, split first place in the $1000.

Over on FantasySportsLive.com, Cameron (RotoGrinders.com) had a great night taking down the 25 man tourney with a huge score of 375.  Congrats on a nice win Cameron!

The only score I could make last night was the $75  freeroll at Fantasy Factor, where I took down 1st place out of 75 teams.

The $4000 Saturday Slam Tournament tips off tonight at 7:00 pm, so Register for free at Fanduel.com and get in on the action!  Good luck tonight.

Highlights from Friday Night’s Fantasy NBA Action:

Paul Millsap (UTA) – Showed no signs of missing Deron Williams, 23pts/18ast, and might even see an uptick in value if the Jazz lean on him to pick up the scoring that Williams took with him to NJ.

Devin Harris (UTA) – 14pts/5reb/7ast, not a bad start in his new home.   Give him a couple more games to get his role defined before using him in daily cash games.

Will Bynum (DET) – I saw Bynum starting on a lot of daily tournament teams last night and his owners really hit the jackpot, 29pts/5reb/6ast.  Kuester is really juggling that lineup and I just couldn’t bring myself to gamble on the uncertainty of minutes.

Greg Monroe (DET) – Monroe is one of my favorite keeper league pickups this season, 16pts/11reb/3stl.   He’s a sneaky play if you need steals.

Marcin Gortat (PHO) – Another great keeper league pickup, 17pts/11reb.

Marcus Thornton (SAC) – Got 28 minutes in his debut for the Kings, 14pts/4reb, but it looks like he’s still stuck in a platoon with Jermaine Taylor.  Both guys are stuck behind the injured Tyreke Evans.  My attraction to Thornton is fading quickly.

Gerald Henderson (CHA) – Henderson will be flying off waiver wires today with his 21 point performance on 8 of 17 shooting.  Grab him if you need a SG.

D.J. Augustin (CHA) – Getting his season back on track, 23 points on 9 of 11 shooting.

New York Knicks – If you covered up the actual names in the Knicks boxscore, you would swear you were looking at a boxscore for the Miami Heat.  Melo, Billups and Amare scored 84 of New York’s 109 points.  Those three are going to be daily fantasy gold down the stretch.

J.J. Hickson (CLE) – He’s a prime example of why daily fantasy cash games and tournaments can be so unpredictable.  I played him in Wednesday’s tournies and he screwed me with 4pts/3reb.  Last night he put up 24pts/15reb/5blk.  Daily fantasy is a lot like poker, you got to get the right cards at the right time,  and luck definitely helps.

Nick Young (WAS) – It looks like Nick Young has locked down a starting spot for next season with the Wizards, 38 points on just 19 shots.   Maybe Gilbert Arenas saw something in Young after all.

Kevin Love (MIN) – Barely kept the double-double streak alive, 11pts/14reb.

Serge Ibaka (OKC) – He gets a huge boost with Jeff Green being shipped out of Oklahoma City.  Ibaka now moves into a starting role and hopefully James Harden isn’t too far behind.   How good is a Westbrook, Harden, Durant, Ibaka, Perkins lineup going to be?

Dwight Howard (ORL) – Had the line of the night, 40pts/15reb/6blk.  Just about every winning tournament team had him going.

Deron Williams (NJN) – Pretty good debut, 14pts/12ast.  He should be a fantasy monster once he gets settled in.

George Hill (SAS) – He’s a nice daily fantasy play with Gary Neal out.

Joe Johnson (ATL) – Has really declined into a mediocre fantasy play, 12pts/5reb/5ast.

Eric Bledsoe (LAC) – The rookie got a start at PG for the Clippers as they await the arrival of Mo Williams, 8pts/8ast.  Bledsoe is still a year or two away from a big role.

Ty Lawson/Raymond Felton (DEN) – I’m having flashbacks of the Kyle Lowry/Aaron Brooks fantasy platoon, and that isn’t good.  The Nuggets really need to pick one of these guys and get the chemistry working for next year.  I just don’t see where they need to keep them both.

Brandon Roy (POR) – 18 points on 7 of 14 shooting.  Don’t fall into the trap.
