Fantasy Basketball Injury Report and Short Term Waiver Adds

As we close out week two of the fantasy basketball season, injuries are starting to pile up and provide for some interesting waiver wire and daily fantasy plays.  If you need some short term pickups to fill some holes or if you are playing daily fantasy cash games and tournaments on Fanduel, then give these guys a look.

Gerald Wallace (BRK) – Wallace is out with a sprained left ankle and could miss another game or two.  Keith Bogans has started the last two in place of Wallace and has been helpful if you are looking for threes.

Tyler Zeller (CLE) – Zeller is probably going to be out for awhile with a facial fracture.  Tristan Thompson and Anderson Varejao will have to absorb some extra minutes.

Anderson Varejao (CLE) –  Varejao missed last night’s game with a sore knee.  I’m not sure how serious it is, but give Samardo Samuels a look if Varejao misses more time.  Samuels got the start Wednesday and logged 38 minutes.

Gerald Henderson (CHA) – Henderson is out for the next 2-4 weeks with a sprained foot.  Ben Gordon will move into the starting lineup and is a great source of three pointers and points.  Ramon Sessions will also likely see an uptick in fantasy value while Henderson is out.

Jason Richardson (PHI) – Richardson has missed the last couple of games with an ankle sprain, but should return in the next week or so.  Nick Young, Evan Turner and Dorell Wright have all had extra value while Richardson is out.  Turner has probably benefitted the most and may finally being getting things going in the right direction.

Danny Granger (IND) – Granger is out for the next three months and the Pacers will roll with Gerald Green as their starting small forward.  Green hasn’t had that breakout game yet, but that may be keeping him on the wire for anyone who wants to take a chance.

Jameer Nelson (ORL) – Nelson is dealing with a few nagging injuries and will probably miss a few more games to get completely healed.  It isn’t like the Magic are going anywhere this season, so there’s really no reason to push Nelson.  E’Twaun Moore has played great while Nelson sits and is worth a short term add.  He’s also been a great deal on Fanduel going for about $4800.

Hedo Turkoglu (ORL) – Turkoglu broke his hand and required surgery which will probably keep him out for at least the next month.  DeQuan Jones and Josh McRoberts have been getting the start, but they aren’t the guys you want to play.  J.J. Redick and Arron Afflalo have both been getting big minutes and have been asked to carry the scoring while Turkoglu and Nelson are out.  Both guys make great daily fantasy plays.

Kyle Lowry (TOR) – Lowry is dealing with mild ankle sprain and is questionable for Saturday.  If he misses the game, give Jose Calderon a play.

Shawn Marion (DAL) – Dallas can’t catch a break and Marion is the latest Maverick to miss time with an injury.  Jae Crowder is a promising rookie and should continue to get solid minutes while Marion is out.  Crowder could also be a nice keeper pickup.

Andrew Bogut (GSW) – Bogut isn’t really considered injured, but he’s having a hard time getting back above 20 MPG, which is providing Carl Landry an opportunity to get significant minutes.  If Bogut continues to be limited, don’t hesitate to give Landry a play in daily leagues.

Brandon Rush (GSW) – Rush is out for the year with an ACL injury.  Jarrett Jack has seen his minutes climb as he’s going to be backing up both the PG and SG spots and makes for a great waiver wire pickup.

Omer Asik (HOU) – Asik suffered a cut in the third quarter last night and didn’t return.  It’s probably not going to cause him to miss time, but if he does, you might want to give Cole Aldrich a quick play if you are desperate.

Steve Nash (LAL) – Nash will be out for at least another week and I’m guessing it could be 2-3 weeks.  Steve Blake will continue to get the start for Nash, but he won’t really put up huge stats.

Eric Gordon (NOR) – Gordon is out indefinitely and may not suit up again for the Hornets.  I’m getting the feeling that he has absolutely no desire to play for New Orleans after this summer’s free agency disaster.  Austin Rivers and Greivis Vasquez should see all the minutes they can handle.

Manu Ginobili (SAS) – Ginobili has been limited with back problems which has allowed Danny Green to get significant minutes.  Green is a pretty good shooter and can help your team at SG.
