I’m still working on the Power Forward rankings and should have them up by Saturday. Some non-basketball advice: Get your flu shots early this year. I got some odd strain of the flu on Friday that made my head feel like it was going to explode. I’ve had the flu before, but nothing like this. I thought my brain was permanently fried, but I’m finally coming out of it.

Stephen Jackson – I’ve been looking at the Bobcats roster and going over the stats at 82Games.com and I’ve changed my mind and moved Jackson to the Shooting Guard rankings. I still think there is a chance that he’ll see a good deal of time at Small Forward, but you can find him on the SG rankings now at number 6.

Gerald Wallace – After sliding Jackson down to SG, I’m also sliding Wallace down to SF and adding him to the Small Forward rankings at number 5. I still don’t think Tyrus Thomas is going to cut it at PF, but we’ll see as camp gets started in about a month. Charlotte also just brought in Kwame Brown and he could see some time at PF as well.

Stephen Curry – Curry is this year’s overhyped fantasy sensation. I actually saw someone rank him as the 5th player to come off the board in drafts. I could see maybe the 5th PG off the board, but 5th overall? I like Curry, but you just can’t gamble that big with your first round pick. People keep citing his March stats, but what those guys are missing is the fact that the Warriors were basically playing with 7 players at the time and Curry and Monta Ellis were playing a two man game with three scrubs filling the other spots. Curry even had to stay in one game after he had six fouls because the Warriors didn’t have enough players to continue. The Warriors now have David Lee and hopefully a healthy Andris Biedrins to take some pressure off of Ellis and Curry. And then there is the coaching situation with Don Nelson which is a little uncertain this season. I think people are ranking Curry way too high and doing so could really come back to bite them when Curry falls back to earth.

Mehmet Okur – Okur is sliding down the rankings pretty fast as he recovers from an achilles injury. At this point, there is no definite time for his return and it’s starting to look like he’s not going to be ready for the season opener. Even if he does make it to the court, he’s now got to deal with Al Jefferson starting at the Center spot in Utah. I could see Okur falling into the final rounds and maybe even going undrafted in shallow leagues.

Yao Ming – Doctors say that the hairline fracture in his foot has fully healed and Ming thinks he might be ready to go for the opener. I’m going to have to see him on the court before I start moving him up the rankings. Drafting Ming is going to be a gamble this season, but it could pay off huge.

Jose Calderon – Calderon tore a hamstring and won’t be back on the court for at least a month. If the injury lingers longer it would likely give Jarrett Jack a leg up on the starting PG job, if he isn’t already in the lead. The injury also lessens the chance that the Raptors can dump Calderon on someone.

Marc Gasol – He looks to be fully recovered from the neck injury that ended his 2009-2010 season.

Baron Davis - SBNation speculates that he has ballooned up to 260 pounds, which couldn’t possibly be good for his fantasy value.

O.J. Mayo – I’ve caught some heat for ranking Mayo so high, but did you know that he is only one of eleven players to play in all 164 games over the last two seasons and he is second in total minutes played (6233 Minutes) over those two seasons? Consistency and dependability is a valuable commmodity.

Mustafa Shakur – The Hornets signed Shakur to backup Chris Paul. They must feel better about Paul’s knee than I do. AtTheHive.com breaks down Mustafa’s game.

Ishmael Smith – If Mustafa ‘2Pac’ Shakur wasn’t a cool enough name for you, the Rockets have signed Ish Smith to backup Kyle Lowery and Aaron Brooks. The Rockets can only hope he’s the Ish.

Steve Blake – There seems to be a real battle brewing over whether Blake or Derek Fisher will start for the Lakers, at least until Kobe declares Fisher to be the starter.

Now that the big names have found homes it’s time for the second and third tier players to start filling in the gaps and specialty roles. These guys can still help your fantasy team since most of them have one special talent that can rule a category. Here’s a quick roundup of this weekend’s free agency fantasy news and notes:

J.J. Redick – The Bulls extended an offer to Redick and now the Magic have seven days to match. Chicago recently signed Kyle Korver, so Redick seems like a bit of redundant overkill. I guess you can never have too many sharpshooters. The real loser in a Redick signing would be Korver.

Kyle Korver – Signed with the Bulls. He’ll get a shot at SG for the Bulls and the guy is a deadly shooter. Fantasy owners will want to grab him for the threes. If you are in a league that counts three point percentage, he can carry the category.

Johan Petro – Signed with the Nets. Stuck behind Brook Lopez so he won’t be worth drafting.

Anthony Morrow – Signed an offer with the Nets. Golden State has brought in Dorrell Wright, so they probably don’t plan on matching New Jersey’s offer. Morrow is another three point sharpshooter, but he has Courtney Lee to contend with in NJ. The Morrow signing doesn’t bode well for the fantasy value of Courtney Lee. These two might be platooning, which is never a good fantasy situation. See how the roster shakes out over the summer.

Ekpe Udoh – The arrival of David Lee probably seals Udoh’s fate as a fantasy non-factor. Nelson will probably glue him to the bench. Udoh is also dealing with a fairly serious wrist injury which has knocked him out of summer league. I’ve seen a few reports which describe Udoh as needing ‘months’ to recover from the problem.

Anthony Randolph – Randolph is starting to climb my fantasy rankings. I’ve seen some talk of him getting plugged into the starting lineup next to Amare. The guy has talent but just never got a real shot under Don Nelson. His final fantasy draft position will depend on how much responsibility D’Antoni gives him.

Tyrus Thomas - Signed to stay in Charlotte and should at least have a similar fantasy value to last season. Keep an eye on what the Bobcats do with Boris Diaw and Tyson Chandler. If one of them leaves, Thomas will move up the draft rankings quickly.

Raymond Felton – He’s headed to New York where he should start at PG. His value will see an uptick with the move. It’s only a two year deal so look for Felton to play all out to try and secure a nice payoff in 2012.

D.J. Augustin – Surely the Bobcats aren’t going to move Augustin into the starting PG slot? His fantasy value would skyrocket if it happens. I expect the Bobcats will bring in an experienced PG sending Augustin back to his reserve role.

Toney Douglas – The real loser of the Felton signing is Toney Douglas. Felton only got a two year deal, which probably implies that the Knicks will be looking to bring in someone like Tony Parker in the near future or Chris Paul in 2012. Douglas needs a quick trade out of New York.

Roy Hibbert – Hibbert recently suffered a knee injury. Not sure how serious it is, but keep an eye on it.

Luther Head – Signed with New Orleans. He’s stuck behind Marcus Thornton and probably won’t get much of a chance to be a fantasy contributor. His only real fantasy value is threes.

Michael Redd – I’ve seen reports that Redd isn’t expected to be ready until February at the earliest. Don’t waste your time drafting him.

Wesley Matthews – Signed an offer sheet with Portland. First, it’s a great personal move for Matthews. He barely escaped the D-League so grabbing $34 million is a no brainer given his talent and skill level. However, the move probably crushes Matthews’ fantasy value since he has to compete with Brandon Roy for time. Matthews’ fantasy value would be much greater in Utah where he would probably be starting at SG. See what role Matthews gets in Portland before drafting him.

Ronnie Brewer – If Matthews hits the jackpot in Portland, Utah could bring back Ronnie Brewer. Brewer was traded to Memphis last season, but wasn’t offered a contract this season by the Grizz. It would be a huge boost to Brewer’s fantasy value if he returned to the Jazz.

Dorrell Wright – Signed with Golden State. Wright was a victim of the Miami housecleaning. He’s a good shooter and there’s no better place for a shooter than Golden State. He’s probably waiver wire material, but he could make a nice streamer in daily roster leagues.

Weekend Rumors:
Josh Childress to Cleveland.
Shaquille O’Neal to Atlanta.
Al Jefferson to Cleveland.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas to Miami.
Derek Fisher to Miami.
Louis Amundson to Denver.
Juwan Howard to Miami.
Isiah Thomas for the GM position with the Knicks. You have got to be kidding me?

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

Kobe Bryant could miss his next game so keep him benched in daily fantasy cash games.

Raymond Felton rolled an ankle and is questionable for Tuesday. D.J. Augustin will likely get the start if Felton can’t go.

Marquis Daniels returned for Boston after missing 29 games. He might be a decent waiver wire pickup given the ever present injury risks on the Celtics.

Luol Deng missed practice Monday with a shoulder tendonitis. Check his gametime status for Tuesday.

Paul Pierce was able to return from a sprained foot and managed to log 30 minutes.

Delonte West is expected to return Tuesday.

Joe Johnson has the flu and might not play Tuesday.

Jose Calderon returned from injury, but he’s still in a timeshare with Jarrett Jack and isn’t much of a play.

Hedo Turkoglu returned after missing a few games with a broken cheekbone.

Chris Douglas-Roberts is out with back spasms.

DeMar DeRozan returned after missing time with an ankle injury. He’s nothing more than roster filler, but he will have a few really good nights.

Marco Belinelli missed the Kings game with a sore ankle. He lost any value he may have had with the return of DeRozan.

Corey Maggette will miss some time with a dislocated finger.

Tyreke Evans is trying to play through his hip and ankle injuries, but he’s clearly limited. Avoid him in daily games until after the all-star break.

Chris Duhon could return to the starting PG role which would really hurt Nate Robinson’s value. Looks like the temporary move could have just been a trade advertisment for Robinson. Nate’s dealing with a groin injury right now anyway, so bench him.

Erick Dampier is dealing with knee problems again. Bench him. Drew Gooden could pick up extra time.

Larry Hughes is suffering from a sprained left big toe.

Brandon Roy will miss the next two games and the all-star game to try and let his hamstring injury heal.

Andrew Bynum suffered a hip injury Saturday. He’s likely out Monday. Bench him just to be safe.

Trevor Ariza is out Tuesday with a hip pointer.

Marcus Thornton is questionable with a back injury.

Devin Harris is questionable Tuesday with a shoulder injury.

Gerald Wallace seems to be a bit limited by his recent hamstring injury. Let him heal up before using him in daily games.

Tyson Chandler may be back soon. Of course he’ll undoubtably get injured within 5 games of returning, so enjoy the handful of stats.

Arron Afflalo has an ankle injury and could miss Tuesday. Ty Lawson makes a great daily game play, espcially if Billups misses.

Kyle Lowery is dealing with a ankle injury. He could be out for two weeks.

A.J. Price suffered a concussion Saturday and his status is unknown. Tough break for Price who had a chance to show his skills with Watson out for a couple of games.

Luther Head missed another game with a viral infection.

Jonny Flynn and Ramon Sessions have fallen back into a timeshare at PG. Avoid the both until it becomes clear who the leader is.

Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony missed on Saturday. They really need the all-star break off time to heal up.

Jason Thompson returned after missing a couple of games to attend a funeral. Hopefully, the off time will snap him out of his slump.

Paul Pierce aggravated his foot injury at practice and is questionable for Wednesday. Bench him and the rest of the Celtics, Rivers will probably tank the Wednesday game in order to rest his stars from now until after the break.
