Fantasy Basketball Daily News: Injuries Everywhere Edition (2/4/10)

It seems like just about every player in the league is suffering from an injury right now and the All-Star Break can’t get here soon enough for some teams.  It will be a great time for guys to get some rest.  Be careful with your daily cash games as the break approaches, since some players may get a few extra days off to get healthy.  It will hard to predict these, so some surprise DNP’s may occur.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Jason Thompson missed Wednesday and he will be out again Friday to attend a funeral.  Spencer Hawes and Jon Brockman will pick up extra minutes.
  • Gerald Wallace missed Wednesday with a hamstring injury.  He says he’ll be back Saturday, but it certainly isn’t guaranteed.
  • Dirk Nowitzki suffered a thumb injury against the Warriors, but played through it.  Check his next gametime status.
  • Jerryd Bayless suffered a wrist injury but played through it.  His run is likely coming to an end anyway with Brandon Roy expected back soon.
  • Hedo Turkoglu hopes to return Sunday.
  • Marcus Thornton missed practice with a sore back.  Check his next gametime status.
  • Erick Dampier missed Wednesday with a knee injury.  Eduardo Najera got the start.
  • Corey Maggette returned after missing a game with a hip injury.
  • Carlos Boozer expects to be back Saturday.  It will be interesting to see what happens to Paul Millsap’s minutes.
  • Lamar Odom stepped on Kobe Bryant’s foot, which aggravated Byrant’s previous ankle problem.  It might be time for a rest with the All-Star break coming up.
  • Earl Watson will miss a couple of games for personal reasons, A.J. Price will get the starts.
  • Willie Green got the start in place of Allen Iverson.  It was a bit surprising to see Green starting ahead of Lou Williams.  Lou was one of my favorite sleepers this season and one of my planned keepers, but I’m not so sure about him now.
  • Caron Butler missed last night with a bruised knee, DeShawn Stevenson got the start.  Randy Foye also got good minutes.
  • Tony Allen got the start in place of Paul Pierce.
  • Tony Parker expects to play Thursday, but there is no guarantee how effective he will be.  There are only two games tonight, so finding a better option might be difficult.
  • Beno Udrih got a DNP-CD Wednesday.  Maybe he finally decided to rest the plantar fasciitis injury for a few games.
  • Nicolas Batum suffered a shoulder injury, but played through it.
  • Caron Butler missed against the Knicks with a bruised knee.
  • Al Harrington returned for the Knicks after missing two games with a knee injury.
  • Chris Duhon got benched for the entire second half last night.  He could be close to losing the starting job to Nate Robinson.
  • Carmelo Anthony missed again last night, Joey Graham got the start.  Anthony says he’s probably out for the next two games.
  • DeMar DeRozan should return Saturday.  Marco Belinelli got one start and put up some nice numbers while DeRozan was out.  Antoine Wright got the other start and also had a good game. Toronto has some nice depth on the club.
  • Tyreke Evans returned form his hip/ankle injuries and put up 32 points against the Spurs.  You can play him, but check his gametime status just to make sure he isn’t sore.
  • Taj Gibson, Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah are all terrible plays right now in daily cash games.  Vinny Del Negro’s rotation minutes are evenly distributed and each of the three are trying to play through various injuries.
  • It looks like Jose Calderon will be out for a few more games, Jarrett Jack will continue to start.
  • Chauncey Billups tried to play through a bad ankle against the Suns, but had a really bad game.  Might be a good idea to bench him for a game or two, becuase he may sit for a few if Melo can return.
  • Antawn Jamison is also dealing with a few injuries that are limiting his play.
  • Stephen Jackson didn’t seem to be affected by his ankle injury.  Keep playing him.
  • Monta Ellis’  sore right wrist didn’t slow him down, he put up a career high 46 points against the Mavs.
  • Udonis Haslem has been dealing with back spasms, but that didn’t slow him  any last night.
  • Jermaine O’neal returned after missing a game with back spasms.
  • Kyle Lowery is still another 7-10 days away from returning.
  • It’s almost time to drop Mike Bibby.  I’m giving him a few more games and then I’m probably cutting him from one of my teams.

Fantasy Basketball Daily News: Arenas the Role Model Edition (2/2/10)

Now that Gilbert Arenas is losing millions of dollars, he’s decided he wants to be a role model for the kids.  Arenas published an article at the Washington Post yesterday discussing his recent troubles and telling kids that guns are bad.  Genius.   He’s a great example for the kids:  Get rich, play with guns thinking you are above the law, work a plea deal, hire a publicist to run articles in the paper saying how you’ve changed and then live happily ever after.  It must be nice being a rich athlete.

Fatnasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Michael Beasley was able to return for Miami after missing two games with a hyperextended right knee.  He went 28 minutes.
  • Jermaine O’Neal missed the Milwaukee game with back spasms.  Joel Anthony got the start.
  • Delonte West (finger) is out against Memphis.
  • DeMar DeRozan (ankle) is out against Indiana.
  • Hedo Turkoglu (fractured cheekbone) is out against Indiana.
  • Mickael Pietrus is out tonight for Orlando.
  • Devin Harris might play tonight, but I’d be safe and keep him benched until he proves to be healthy.
  • Chauncey Billups is dealing with an ankle sprain.  Check his next gametime status.
  • Tyreke Evans missed Monday with a hip injury.  No word yet on his next game.
  • Sam Young missed against the Lakers with an allergic reaction.  Lester Hudson was able to pick up his minutes.
  • Stephen Jackson twisted an ankle Monday, but played through it.  Check it before the next game.
  • Chris Kaman is questionable tonight with a sprained ankle.  Keep him benched.
  • Ronnie Brewer suffered bruised ribs last night, but played through it.  Check his next gametime status.
  • Joakim Noah missed practice Monday due to his plantar fasciitis, but expects to play Tuesday.
  • Paul Pierce injury his left foot and sat out the fourth quarter on Monday.  Keep an eye on this injury.
  • Brandon Roy is likely out for another week.
  • I have been using Randy Foye as a cheap fill in for my daily salary cap games, but it looks like he’s falling out of the rotation.  Jerryd Bayless, Marcus Thornton and Darren Collison are better alternatives at comparable salaries.
  • Will Bynum may return for Detroit tonight.  Keep him benched until he proves to be healthy.
  • Lamar Odom suffered a sprained finger against Memphis.  Check his next gametime status.
  • Charlie Villanueva is dealing with back spasms, keep him benched.
  • Antawn Jamison added a knee injury to his list of other injuries.  I don’t think it’s serious, but he seems to be struggling anyway and it might be time to give him a few days on the bench.
  • Shawn Marion is trying to play through a hand injury.
  • Carmelo Anthony missed again last night.  Keep him benched.
  • Shane Battier aggravated his shoulder injury Friday.  Avoid him for a few games.
  • Rodrigue Beaubois left last night’s game with a bruised back and didn’t return.
  • James Posey returned for New Orleans.
  • Jameer Nelson is dealing with a hyperextended knee that he suffered on Sunday.  Get him benched.

Nine games on the fantasy schedule today.  Denver @ San Antonio tips off at 1:00 pm EST, so set your rosters early.   I’ll update and add the late game previews this afternoon, so check back.  The best game of the day should be the Lakers-Celtics matchup at 3:30 pm EST.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Michael Beasley missed Saturday with a knee injury.  He might be back on Monday.    Joel Anthony again got a start, but only got 14 minutes.  Udonis Haslem got 31 minutes, but had a terrible game going 1-8 shooting.
  • Mario Chalmers also missed the Milwaukee game with a left thumb injury.
  • It might be a good idea to avoid Chris Kaman today, he’s still dealing with a sore ankle.
  • Tyreke Evans aggravated his bruised left hip against the Bobcats.   This injury wasn’t suffered against the Bobcats, but rather happened in a the previous game.   I never saw it reported prior to Saturday’s game.  The Kings are very secretive with injuries and Evans has been a surprise DNP a couple of times this season, so check his next gametime status and probably go with a safer option anyway.
  • Al Harrington missed Saturday with a sore knee and is likely out Sunday as well.
  • Mike Miller had his first good game in awhile.  I don’t know if he can keep it going, but this my be your only opportunity to grab him off the waiver wire
  • Delonte West is out Sunday.  Daniel Gibson will get another start.
  • Steve Nash is dealing with an abdominal strain.  Might be a safe play to bench him Sunday if you have better options.
  • Vince Carter is having problems with his shoulder and should be benched until he heals up.  J.J. Redick is playing better right now and makes a good fill in if you need points and threes.
  • Chris Paul missed Saturday, Darren Collison got the start.
  • Kyle Lowery will miss 1-2 weeks with a knee injury.  Houston called up Will Conroy from the D-League.  Keep an eye on Conroy, he’s the D-League’s all-time leader in assists and scoring.  Chase Budinger might also see some extra minutes.
  • Jerry Sloan says Paul Millsap could get more minutes after Carlos Boozer returns.
  • Dwyane Wade is really having problems with his back.  I’ve also noticed that he’s been dealing with foul problems a lot more than usual lately.  I could see him getting a few days off soon to get this healed up, especially sometime close to the all-star break.  Be careful starting him in daily cash games, he’s just not worth the high salary with this injury.
  • I’ve seen some chatter that Austin Daye might get more playing time soon.  Put him on your radar.
  • Carmelo Anthony says he’s going to try to play Sunday.  Keep him benched until he proves to be healthy.  Update 12:53:  Melo is out today.
  • It doesn’t seem like Antawn Jamison’s shoulder injury is limiting him.  He put up 21pts/23rebs against the Knicks.  Keep an eye on him.
  • Darren Collison did a great job filling in for Chris Paul.  He makes a nice play in daily cash games if Paul misses anymore time.

Fantasy Basketball Daily News (1/09/10)

It was a night of returns Friday in the NBA with Troy Murphy, Chauncey Billups, Danny Granger, Chris Andersen, Erick Dampier and Mike Miller all getting back on the court for their teams.  Rafer Alston also made his return, but with a different team.  Eight games on the schedule for Saturday.

Fantasy Basketball Daily Articles:

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Carmelo Anthony missed Friday.  No word on how many more games he will miss.
  • Ty Lawson missed with a sore ankle.
  • Randy Foye is starting at PG in place of Gilbert Arenas and doing a pretty good job.  He got four stitches in his mouth last night but should be good for his next game.  Grab him if he’s still out there.
  • Rafer Alston got the start at PG for Miami and went 35 minutes.   It doesn’t seem like there is going to be a timeshare and Alston may have 35+ minutes a night all to himself.  Pick him up.  Carlos Arroyo is likely a drop, he got a DNP-CD, while Mario Chalmers only got 13 minutes.
  • Pau Gasol missed his third straight game, but he may return on Sunday.  Keep him benched until he actually sets foot on the court.
  • Erick Dampier returned after missing two games with a knee injury.  He played 25 minutes.
  • Allen Iverson had his knee drained again on Friday and he is probably out for Saturday’s game at Detroit.  He is a really tough daily start due to his inconsistency.
  • Eddie House returned from the flu but seems to have passed it to Tony Allen who was home suffering with it.
  • The Celtics are leaning hard on Paul Piece running him 43 and 41 minutes after his recent return from a knee injury.   He’s a good daily play, but could go down anytime with the excessive usage.
  • Vince Carter injured his left shoulder and exited the game in the second quarter.  He didn’t return.  J.J. Redick should get a start if Carter can’t go in his next one.
  • Mike Miller returned for Washington and got 39 minutes of action.  If you missed him, it’s probably because of the buzzcut. Get him back in your lineup, as they will need him now that Arenas is out.
  • Danny Granger returned for Indiana and went 31 minutes.  Get him back in your lineup.
  • Troy Murphy also returned for Indiana after missing 4 games with an ankle injury.
  • The Indiana PG timeshare was Earl Watson 27 minutes, A.J. Price 22 minutes.  Price was the better player in this one, but Watson has way more experience.  T.J. Ford didn’t get off the bench.
  • Chauncey Billups returned Friday from a groin injury.  He went 33 minutes.
  • Anthony Randolph went down Friday with an ankle fracture.  Early estimates are that he’s out 4-6 weeks.  Corey Maggette and Andris Biedrins should see an uptick in minutes.
  • Lester Hudson was picked up on waivers by Memphis.  Solid pickup that adds some depth to the Grizzlies.
  • Cartier Martin might the the callup from Golden State.  Put him on your watchlist if you’re in a keeper league.
  • Not sure how I missed this, but Houston’s Carl Landry and New York’s Marcus Landry are brothers.
  • Deron Williams will likely miss Saturday with his wrist problem.   Ronnie Price should get the start, but he is dealing with a shoulder problem.  Sundiata Gaines may see decent minutes, it would be interesting to see what he’s got.
  • Move Antawn Jamison up on your daily draft sheets.  Washington will lean on him heavily and you should play him while his salary is still low.
  • Chris Douglas-Roberts suffered an eye injury last night, check his status before the next game.
  • Steve Blake hopes to return Sunday from pneumonia.  Given the Andre Miller/ Nate McMillan confrontation, Blake could be in line for more minutes.
  • Derek Fisher may be losing his grip on the starting PG spot in LA.  How would you even notice that Fisher had a bad game?  Fantasy owners shouldn’t have him on their teams anway.
  • Al Harrington is dealing with a strained calf.
  • Chris Andersen returned Friday and played 27 minutes.
  • LaMarcus Aldridge is dealing with a sore ankle and should be avoided for now in daily cash games.
  • Ryan Gomes could return to the starting five soon.  Pick him up if you need a fill in forward.

Fantasy Basketball Daily News: Arenas Suspension Edition (1/06/10)

Dwight Howard is killing me in my daily fantasy cash games at FantasySportsLive.com.  There is nothing worse than spending a big chunk of your salary budget on a good center, only to see him on the bench after the first three minutes of the game with 2 fouls.  I figured it would be his opponent, Roy Hibbert, on the bench half way through the first quarter.  It didn’t get much better from there since Howard fouled out early in what should have been a great matchup against a weak Indiana team without Foster, Hansbrough and Murphy.  And the ironic thing is that Mr. Foul himself, Roy Hibbert, managed to play 35 minutes with only 4 fouls and had a career night.   It’ll be awhile before Superman is on my daily fantasy roster again.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Ron Artest returned Tuesday and played 33 minutes.
  • Paul Gasol was out Tuesday, but Lamar Odom filled in nicely almost recording a triple double.
  • Ty Lawson suffered a sprained left ankle last night and Nene also suffered an aggravation of a previous ankle sprain.  No word yet on the availability of each for the next game.
  • Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Chris Anderson all missed Tuesday for Denver.
  • Erick Dampier missed Tuesday with a left knee injury.  Drew Gooden got the start and managed to grab 18 rebounds in 33 minutes.
  • Allen Iverson will be with Philadelphia for the rest of the season since his contract was guaranteed yesterday.  He’s on that downward slope though, 5 points/4assists and 7 turnover last night.
  • Brendan Haywood missed Tuesday for Washington.  Andray Blatche got the start.  Blatche was horrible on defense allowoing Samuel Dalembert to put up 20 points and 20 rebounds.
  • Thaddeus Young is really slumping lately and his minutes have been cut to around 20-25 over the last 5 games.  No word of any injury, but avoid him for awhile until his breaks out of it.
  • Blake Griffin is scheduled to return January 20.  I hope they let him fully heal, it would be a shame to pull an Oden by rushing him back.
  • New Jersey bought out Rafer Alston.  Miami is rumored to have an interest in bringing him in to play PG after he clears waivers.
  • Chris Quinn was traded to New Jersey for a second round draft pick.  Seems like the Alston/Quinn combination of transactions was some creative moves to make the trade fit.
  • Deron Williams is a gametime decision Wednesday.  Utah signed Sundiata Gaines, so maybe that’s a clue that Williams probably won’t play.  Ronnie Price will likely get the start if Williams can’t go.   Bet they wish they had Eric Maynor back.
  • Jose Calderon should return Wednesday, but won’t start.
  • Paul Pierce says he’ll play Weddnesdy, Rajon Rondo is less certain and is listed as questionable.
  • Kendrick Perkins is likely out Wednesday with the flu.   Eddie House will also be out with the flu.
  • Jermaine O’Neal is questionable Wednesday with a hip injury.
  • Start grabbing any speculative picks on the Wizards, especially Randy Foye and Andray Blatche.  I see a complete demolition of the team coming soon.  Also, keep an eye on guys who might get traded to the Wizards.
