Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (10/19/10)

Chris Paul – Monty Williams wants to limit Paul to 35 minutes a night.  Why would he do this if Paul’s knee wasn’t a concern?  The only shot New Orleans has of making the playoffs is to ride Chris Paul for all he’s worth.

San Antonio Spurs – Gregg Popovich wants the Spurs to increase their game pace this season.  Good news for fantasy owners of Spurs players.

SleeperBot.com – A big thanks to Andy at SleeperBot.com for sending me the Fantasy Basketball Draft Rankings Tiersheet.  You guys have to check this thing out, it’s one of the coolest fantasy tools I’ve seen and a huge help when trying to organize your draft rankings.  SleeperBot.com also has a nice chat tool that I have on my list of things to check out.

James Harden – Harden would be a fantasy goldmine if he could just play better defense.  The Thunder will keep riding Thabo Sefolosha at SG, but keep Harden on your watchlist just in case Sefolosha gets injured or the Thunder find themselves needing more offense.

LeBron James – 33 points in 29 minutes.  Yeah, I think the hamstring is just fine.

Marcus Thornton – Wouldn’t New Orleans have been better off trading Thornton rather than Collison?  How much trouble are they in if Chris Paul goes down?  Buy low, sell high guys.

Derrick Brown – Brown is an interesting prospect for Charlotte that you should probably keep an eye on this year.  He’s stuck behind Gerald Wallace right now, but we all know about Wallace’s health.  Brown has some talent, so grab him if anything ever happens to Wallace.

Jamario Moon – It looks like he’s won the starting SF spot for Cleveland.  Moon will have to fight off Antawn Jamison all season, but he’s probably worth a late round flier.

Roddy Beaubois – Has this guy been overhyped or what?  He’s like a legend that just keeps growing, without ever really having accomplished anything.  Don’t reach for him.

Anthony Parker/Ramon Sessions/Daniel Gibson – Parker has won the starting SG spot for Cleveland.  Daniel Gibson will bring his instant offense off the bench.  The player hurt the most by this is Ramon Sessions.  Mo Williams will start at PG, which leaves Gibson and Sessions scrambling for minutes.

Marcus Camby – He’s got a hip injury that would have kept him out of a regular season game.  If you draft Camby, be prepared for this type of thing all season long.  I’d try to find a safer option.

Jason Smith – He appears to have won the backup spot behind David West in New Orleans.  Smith is an interesting prospect that you should put on your long term watchlist.  He has been slow to develop due to a torn ACL in 2008, but he could mature soon.

Travis Outlaw – He’s locked up the starting SF spot for New Jersey and deserves a look on draft day.

Anthony Morrow/Terrence Williams – Morrow will get the starting nod and can help you in the three point category.  Don’t forget about Williams, he’s still going to get his minutes.

Gerald Wallace – He missed Monday’s game with back spasms and was responsible for me going 0-4 in last night’s cash games at Fanduel.com.  I’ll let this one slide Gerald since you’re an Alabama Crimson Tide alum, but don’t let it happen again, please.

Atlanta Hawks – My early pick for this season’s most disappointing team.  They had the second ranked offense in the league last season, but for some reason have decided to completely alter it and try something else.  If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  They will no longer sneak up on anyone.  It could be a long year for Larry Drew.

Elton Brand – Converse just launched the new EB3 shoe.  Who’s buying this?  Could Converse not find anyone better for their campaign or are they, like Philly, also stuck in a horrible long term contract with Brand?

Danny Granger – He’s probably done with preseason due to the ankle injury.  And if his week weren’t already bad enough, he got pulled over by the cops and had his car towed due to expired plates, leaving him standing on the side of the interstate.  That’s just cold, Minneapolis police, just cold.
