Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (1/20/11)

Marcin Gortat (PHO)  – Had his first really big game for Phoenix going for 16pts/12reb/3blk.  He’s got the talent to produce lines like this on a consistent basis and should be added if you need some depth at center, especially in keeper leagues.

J.J. Hickson (CLE) – Hickson is another guy you definitely want to grab off the wire, 16pts/15reb.  If he keeps rebounding like this, he’ll be starting for the Cavs for the rest of the season.

Ramon Sessions (CLE) – Sessions got the start for Mo Williams and had a pretty decent game, 19pts/5reb/8ast/3stl/1blk.  I’ve seen estimates that Williams might be out for a couple of weeks.  Williams isn’t happy in Cleveland and could find himself out of there next season, or sooner.

Andrei Kirilenko (NJN) – Now that the Carmelo deal has seemingly died, the Nets could turn their attention to bringing in Kirilenko.  He’s still only 29 years old and probably has 2 or 3 more good years left in the tank.  Might be worth a gamble in keeper leagues.

Lou Williams (PHI) – Continues to bomb away, 6-17 for 19 points.  He led the team in shot attempts.  Jodie Meeks was horrible again, 1-4 for three points.

Gilbert Arenas (ORL) – As much as I hate to say it, it might be time to think about dropping Arenas.  He’s clearly just a bench player now and rarely gets more than 25 minutes.  All you can do at this point is hold on to him and hope for an injury to Nelson or J. Richardson.

Ryan Anderson (ORL) – He’s a sneaky fantasy play if you need three pointers out of your PF position.  He was 4 of 10 from three on Wednesday.

Greg Monroe (DET) – Monroe has been one of my favorite pickups lately, 13pts/9reb/1stl.  The Pistons are looking to rebuild and Monroe could be one of their solid young building blocks.  Grab him in keeper leagues.

Shaq O’Neal (BOS) – I’m just amazed at Shaq continuing to get it done, 12pts/12reb/3stl/2blk in only 25 minutes of action.

Mike Conley (MEM) – Conley has really gone unnoticed this season, but he’s improved his FG%, Steals, Assists and Points every year over the last 3 seasons and has career highs in each of those categories this season.

Marcus Thornton (NOR) – I’ve given up trying to figure this situation out.  Belinelli is back and now Thornton gets minutes over Jarrett Jack.  I’m not sure why Thornton didn’t get the start while Belinelli was out.  Good game last night, 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting.  Hang on to him I guess and hope for a trade.

Rashard Lewis (WAS) – The honeymoon appears to be over for Lewis in Washington.  He’s reverting back toward his familiar role of three point specialist now that Andray Blatche is healthy.  The rebounds and assists are starting to fade, which should be expected when you stand on the three point line all day waiting for the ball to find you.

Nick Young (WAS) – There’s a real possibility that Nick Young could factor heavily into the Wizards plans for next season, so grab him in keeper leagues.  He led the team in shot attempts Wednesday going 9 of 19 for 21pts.  He also added 6reb/5ast.

Corey Maggette (MIL) – He’s moved into the starting lineup and makes a great short term add.  A little inconsistent and injury prone, but he can light up the points category when he’s on.

Chuck Hayes (HOU) – How can you not like Chuck Hayes?  Undersized at 6’6, but he still gets it done with hustle, 8pts/12reb/3stl/2blk.

Patrick Patterson (HOU) – Good to see him back on the court after a scare a few days ago that required a trip to the hospital due to chest pains.

DeMar DeRozan (TOR) – Getting a little extra run with Barbosa out with hamstring problems, 10-19 for 28 points and 4 steals.  DeRozan will also be taking Brandon Jennings’ place in the dunk contest.

Ed Davis (TOR) – Great on the boards with 11 rebounds, but his offensive game needs some work, only 2 shot attempts.  Still a decent keeper league gamble.

DeJuan Blair (SAS) – He’s the most frustrating player I own right now.   He had 22pts/11reb Wednesday, which followed a 3pt/4reb game Sunday.  Hang on to him and hope he finds some consistency.

Shawn Marion (DAL) – Came off the bench behind Sasha Pavlovic.  I guess the Mavs are just trying to control his minutes since they really have no other SF option if Marion goes down.  Marion still put up 22 points on 10 of 13 shooting.

Ty Lawson (DEN) – Patiently waiting to take over the starting PG spot in Denver, 11pts/3reb/3ast in only 18 minutes of action.  Grab him in keeper leagues.

Dante Cunningham (POR) – Got the start for Marcus Camby and put up a mediocre line, 6pts/5reb/2stl/1blk.  I’m not sure Cunningham is worth an add at this point, especially if Przybilla gets a big chunk of the minutes at center.  Keep an eye on Cunningham.

Tyreke Evans (SAC) – 45 minutes last night.  The Kings are just begging for another injury out of Evans, and the next one could knock him out.  You’re 9-31, there’s no need to treat your franchise player like this.

Danny Granger (IND) – Starting to find his shot again, huge line last night, 32pts/13reb/6ast/3stl/1blk.

Stephen Curry (GSW) – His fantasy value has really been falling lately.  He’s had foul trouble and has been benched in a few games for his defense.  Maybe it’s just a slump, but keep an eye on him.  It’s tough to trade him, because he’s still got star potential, but if the deal is right you might want to pull the trigger.

DeAndre Jordan (LAC) – Jordan is another of my favorite pickups right now, but the clock is ticking on him since Chris Kaman will return soon.  Jordan had 11pts/12reb/1stl/1blk Wednesday.
