Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (1/21/11)

Fanduel.com has added a $2500 Fantasy Basketball Tournament for Friday night.   This should be a regular weekly tourney at the site.  I grabbed a spot in the tourney and will be posting some picks and player news updates for it later this afternoon.   Register early at Fanduel.com since the tourney is limited to only 110 teams.  Check back here a couple of hours before gametime for the Pre-Game Tourney Report.

News and Notes from Thursday’s Fantasy NBA Action:

Andre Iguodala (PHI) – Had the best line of the night for the Sixers against the Bobcats, 19pts/5eb/5ast/4stl.

Thaddeus Young (PHI) – Got some good run with Andres Nocioni still out with a finger injury, 21 points on 9-14 shooting.  He’s a great short term add while Nocioni is out.

Jodie Meeks/Lou Williams (PHI) – These two guys really need to switch roles, but I understand that Philly really needs offense with the second team, so Meeks will likely continue to start.  Williams is definitely the better fantasy play though.

Gerald Wallace (CHA) – Horrible game from Wallace, 6pts/3reb/2ast.  He lost many daily fantasy cash games for owners playing on a night with limited options.

Tyrus Thomas/Boris Diaw (CHA) – Thomas is going to miss at least two months with a knee injury, so grab Diaw off the wire if you need some help at PF.  It’s a shame for Thomas, he was finally getting an opportunity under a new head coach that was actually giving him minutes.  Hang on to him in keeper leagues.

D. J. Augustin (CHA) – I’m liking my Wallace for Augustin trade a lot more today after watching D.J. put up a solid 31 points.  I think Augustin is the one Bobcat who benefits the most from the recent coaching change and the more uptempo style.  He should be a great second half play and a nice keeper for next season, especially if the Bobcats lose one of their other scorers in the offseason, thereby leaving more offensive opportunity for Augustin.

Tyson Chandler (DAL) – Seems to be over the flu bug, 12pts/12reb.

Shawn Marion (DAL) – The Mavs signed Sasha Pavlovic to another 10 day contract and started him ahead of Marion.  Shawn only got 25 minutes and I think you probably have to avoid him in daily cash games for now.

Taj Gibson (CHI) – Got another start for Carlos Boozer and had a horrible game, 4pts/6reb.   His production had been mediocre the last two games, but he managed to salvage it with 12 blocks.  Tonight he didn’t block a single shot.

Ronnie Brewer (CHI) – Picked up 3 more steals.  Grab him if you need some help in that category.

Blake Griffin (LAC) – 20 points, 18 rebounds.  A fantasy stud.

Eric Gordon (LAC) – Great shooting night, 13-26 for 35 points.  He was hot from three, going 7 of 11.

Wesley Matthews (POR) – Matthews bounced back after a couple of lackluster performances, 10-18 for 28 points.  He’s been a difficult play in daily fantasy cash games due to his inconsistency.

Marcus Camby (POR) – Had arthroscopic surgery and he’s expected to be out three weeks.  You can give Dante Cunningham or Joel Przybilla a shot until then, but don’t expect much.

Peja Stojakovic (DAL) – This is a situation that fantasy owners might want to take a look at.  The Mavs need some depth with Caron Butler out and Stojakovic could fill that need.  He can still shoot the three ball, so keep an eye on his minutes and give him a roster spot if you need some help in the 3PM category.  Look for Alexis Ajinca to head to Toronto to make room for Stojakovic.

Al Horford (ATL) – He’s going to miss a couple of games with a sprained ankle.

Rashard Lewis (WAS) – Dealing with a sore knee, be careful starting him.

Anthony Morrow (NJN) – Morrow is scheduled to return tonight.  Check your wire to see if anyone dropped him, especially if you need threes.
