Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (12/23/10)

Daily Cash Games –  I finished 30th out of 285 teams  in the Fanduel.com $2500 Fantasy Basketball Tournament last night.  Martell Webster and Nate Robinson really killed me, as I finished only 20 points behind the tournament winner.  There’s another $2500 tourney next Wednesday at Fanduel.com.

Holiday Posting Schedule – Posting is going to be a little light over the Christmas Holidays.  I’ll be back to full speed on Monday, January 3.

Charlotte Bobcats – Finally got rid of Larry Brown yesterday and brought in Paul Silas to coach the team.  Tyrus Thomas is the player who stands to benefit the most, so check your wire to see if he’s out there.

News and Notes from Wednesday’s NBA Action:

J.J. Hickson (CLE) – He’s now buried on the depth chart, but don’t cut him yet.  The Cavs could look to trade Antawn Jamison and Hickson could find himself right back in the starting lineup.

Joe Johnson (ATL) – He’s rounding back into gameshape after missing some time with an elbow injury, 23pt/5reb/7ast on 9-17 shooting.  Keep him active.

Carlos Boozer (CHI) – Boozer is really benefitting from the absence of Joakim Noah, 30pt/10reb/7ast.

Kurt Thomas (CHI) – 41 minutes for Thomas on Wednesday, but the line was weak, 4pt/7reb/2blk.  Taj Gibson should be back soon.

Kirk Hinrich (WAS) – Hinrich and Nick Young have both turned in to valuable fantasy properties with John Wall out.  However, it could evolve into a timeshare at SG between the two when Wall returns.  If I had to pick one, I’d go with Young.

Rashard Lewis (WAS) – Made his Wizards debut and the results were a lot like his Orlando performance, 4-10 for 8 points.   I don’t see Lewis gaining much value with the trade.  It’s no fun getting traded from a championship team to a lottery team.

Rip Hamilton (DET) – Kuester’s motivational trick worked, 35 points on 13 of 20 shooting for Hamilton.  Trade showcase?

Ben Gordon (DET) – Got a chance in the starting lineup and promptly blew it, 1 of 7 for 4 points.

Jodie Meeks (PHI) – Probably a drop now, only 2 shot attempts in 31 minutes.

Shaquille O’Neal (BOS) – Returned from a leg injury and was able to go 27 minutes, 13pt/9reb/2blk.

Serge Ibaka/Nick Collison (OKC) – 19 minutes for Ibaka, 17 minutes for Collison.  They shot a combined 0-7.  One of them really needs to step up and grab this opportunity.

Amare Stoudemire (NYK) – The Thunder actually did a pretty good job of containing him, 23pt/7reb.

Kris Humphries/Troy Murphy (NJN) – This is starting to turn in to a timeshare.  Humphries got 20 minutes, Murphy got 16.   Neither is usuable in daily cash games with these minutes.  Humphries deserves the job full time, but the Nets really need to showcase Murphy soon.

Sasha Vujacic (NJN) – Another 25 minute game.  Grab him if you have an extra spot and the patience to see how things develop with him.

Marcus Thornton (NOR) – 7-10 for 18 points in only 19 minutes of action.

Paul Millsap (UTA) – Solid game, 23pt/11reb/3stl.

Kevin Love (MIN) – 25pt/19reb.  He’s turned into an elite fantasy player.  Looking back, it was really foolish for the Wolves to be limiting him to 25 minutes a game earlier in the season.  They probably cost themselves 2 or 3 wins with that poor coaching decision.

Martell Webster (MIN) – Only got 25 minutes, but he did manage 16 points on 4-9 shooting.

J.R. Smith (DEN) – Got some extra run with Billups hurting and Melo out, 22pt/7reb/3ast/2stl.

Carmelo Anthony (DEN) – Missed due to the death of his sister, Michelle, who passed away due to a pre-existing health condition.  He’s probably going to miss the Christmas day game too.

Kenyon Martin (DEN) – Finally returned to action and got 17 minutes going for 8pt/5reb.  He’s worth an add, but don’t expect too much too soon.

Ty Lawson (DEN) – Billups started, but Lawson still got 28 minutes and put up 22 points on 8-12 shooting.  If you are in a keeper league, you might want to acquire Lawson in a trade before Billups gets shipped out of Denver.

Gary Neal (SAS) – Neal has a little game, 22 points in 26 minutes.  He went 5 of 7 from three.  He might have a little value while George Hill is out.

Blake Griffin (LAC) – 24pt/18reb.  Go ahead and put his name on the Rookie of the Year trophy.

DeAndre Jordan (LAC) – Good game from Jordan against the Rockets, 14pt/13reb/3stl/2blk.  Unfortunately, Chris Kaman is probably going to be back soon.

Jerryd Bayless (TOR) – Missed Wednesday with food poisoning.
