Fantasy Basketball Daily News and Notes (6/18/11)

Congrats to the Mavs on their 2011 NBA Championship!  It’s great to see Mark Cuban finally get that title.   No doubt that LeBron is catching the blame for the Heat loss, but Miami should be a stronger team for all of this next season.   It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they completely dominated the league this coming season.

Fanduel.com – Now that basketball is officially over, Fanduel.com has daily fantasy baseball contests running full time with some great cash tournaments nearly every day of the week.  If you like one day fantasy contests played for real cash, check them out.

2011 NBA Draft – The draft will take place Thursday, June 23 at 7:00 p.m. EST on ESPN.    Checkout ESPN’s Draft Page for all the information you need on the upcoming draft.

Las Vegas Summer League – It’s looking like the summer league in Vegas is going to be cancelled this year due to the ongoing CBA negotiations.

Draft Comparisons – Great article from Tom Ziller comparing each of the 2011 draftees with current NBA players with similar skills, talents and game.

2012 NBA Championship Odds – Early Vegas odds for the 2012 NBA Championship from Bodog.com.  Miami tops the board at 5/2.

Ricky Rubio (MIN) – It’s official, Rubio will be with the Timberwolves this season.  He’s pure fantasy hype and likely an assists/steals only type player.  He’ll go way too high in drafts and is someone you probably want  to avoid.  Basketball Prospectus projects him out at around 30 minutes a game with 8.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.8 steals.  I’m not seeing the rebounds for him, but the other stats could be close if everything goes right for Rubio.  Those projections seem to equate him to Jason Kidd, which may be overly optimistic.

Jason Thompson (SAC) – Suffered a fractured toe last week.  He’ll be re-evaluated in 4-6 weeks, but should be good to go for camp.

Chauncey Billups (NYK) – Billups had another MRI on his left knee and it seems like everything came back clean.  He’s due to start offseason workouts soon.  It might be a good move to see if you can steal him from any owner who might have concerns over the knee or Billups’ age.  He should be an assist machine this season with Melo and Amare.

Rudy Gay (MEM) – He’s recovering well from shoulder sugery and has begun working out.  No shooting yet, but he projects to be ready by the end of September at the very latest.

Yao Ming (HOU) – Things aren’t looking good for Yao’s return.  It’s been reported that he’s only about 30% healed so far.

Qualifying Offers – Several guys have been extending qualifying offers thereby becoming restricted free agents including Marcus Thornton, DeAndre Jordan, Mario Chalmers and Rodney Stuckey.
