Fantasy Basketball Daily News: Paul Pierce Scare Edition (2/3/10)

I managed to avoid the Chris Paul bomb in all my leagues, and I feel like I dodged another bullet with Paul Pierce.  The Blogosphere went crazy last night with rumors that Pierce had a broken foot and would miss significant time.  His injury is just has a sprained foot and nothing appears to be broken.  I’ve lost Pierce, J. O’Neal and H. Turkoglu this week in the GiveMeTheRock.com keeper league, but I’m holding 4th place, only 6.5 out of first.   It’s all fun and games – until you lose a few players.

I’m posting early today, but I’ll try to update closer to gametime if I have the chance.

Fantasy Basketball Player News and Notes:

  • Allen Iverson is out tonight for Philadelphia.  One of his childern is seriously ill.  Lou Williams and Jrue Holiday will run at PG and SG.
  • Caron Butler is out tonight for Washington.
  • Chauncey Billups is dealing with an injured ankle, so be careful starting him.  See if you can find a better option.
  • Nicolas Batum is moving closer to the starting lineup, mostly due to his defense.  Martell Webster could lose minutes.
  • Corey Maggette missed Tuesday with a left hip pointer.  Reports are that he could have played if necessary, so he’ll probably be ready for the next game.  Vlad Radmanovic got the start for Maggette, but he wasn’t good due to a lingering achilles problem.
  • Kevin Durant hurt his right elbow in the first quarter, but played through it and had a big game.  Check it before the next game just to be safe.
  • Gerald Wallace is nursing a sore hamsting and has a tough matchup with the Lakers tonight.  His high salary might be better used elsewhere.
  • Stephen Jackson is nursing a sore left ankle, but he will probably play against the Lakers.
  • Charlie Villanueva was limited to 8 minutes due to his back spasms.
  • Beno Udrih is suffering from plantar fasciitis which is affecting his production.  His minutes have also decreased due to the return of Kevin Martin and the emergence of Tyreke Evans.
  • Will Bynum returned from his ankle problems for Detroit
  • Jose Calderon suffered a sprained right ankle Tuesday.
  • Joakim Noah is clearly being limited by his plantar fasciitis.  Keep him benched.
  • Devin Harris returned for New Jersey and had a big game putting up 24pt/14ast.
  • Kirk Hinrich tweaked his thumb again, but managed to play through it.
  • Chris Kaman was able to return from a sprained ankle and log 41 minutes.
  • Al Harrington is a gametime decision tonight.  Keep him benched.
  • Daniel Gibson looks to be settling in nicely as the starting PG for Cleveland.  He makes a great cheap salary cap filler in daily cash games.
  • Yi Jianlian suffered a shoulder injury last night, but he managed to play through it.  Check his next gametime status.
  • Jameer Nelson missed last night with a knee injury.  Jason Williams got the start.  Nelson is expected back Friday.
  • Mickael Pietrus missed against the Bucks with a sprained ankle.  Matt Barnes picked up the extra minutes.
  • Tyreke Evans missed his last game with hip and ankle problems.  He says he’ll play Wednesday, but it might be a good idea to play it safe and find a better alternative tonight.
  • Carmelo Anthony could play tonight, but I’d be safe and keep him benched and go with a safer alternative in daily games.  I just don’t think he is going to be worth the high salary until he gets back completely healthy.
  • Ben Gordon is really slumping in his three games since returning from injury.  Keep him benched until he snaps out of it.
  • Jermaine O’Neal is still dealing with back spasms, but should play tonight.  He might not be too effective against the tough Boston defense and should probably be left on your bench.
