Fantasy Basketball Daily News – Roll Tide Edition! (12/07/09)

Awww, we made Timmy cry.  Nice to see my Crimson Tide roll over the Gators.  Next up, the Texas Longhorns in the national championship game in Pasadena!  Roll Tide!!

  • Fantasy Basketball Boxscore Breakouts Daily Report from LestersLegends.com.
  • Greg Oden out for the season with a fractured knee cap.  The surgery went good and no ligament damage was found.  Portland thinks their big man will be ready by training camp next season.  For those of you in need of a center, grab Joel ‘Vanilla Gorilla’ Przybilla.  Basketball Prospectus has a very detailed article about Oden and his injury.
  • Allen Iverson should get the start tonight for Philly.  The real question is what happens to Lou Williams when he returns, especially if the Sixers go on a winning streak with Iverson leading the way.  I’ve got Lou in a few leagues and I’m just going to bite the bullet and hold on to him.  Maybe he  grabs the shooting guard spot upon his return.
  • Marquis Daniels is going to miss some time with a left wrist problem.
  • How about Jarrett Jack stopping in the middle of play to tie his shoe?  Video from Ball Don’t Lie.
  • Yi Jianlian was set to return to the lineup after missing 5 weeks with a knee sprain, but it looks like a gash to the inside of his upper lip will keep him out for another week.  Must have been a big cut, it took 50 stitches to get it closed.  [ESPN]
  • Might be time to cut bait on D.J. Augustin, if you haven’t already.  He’s in Larry Brown’s doghouse for sure and he hasn’t seen the court in awhile.  Not sure when, or if, he might see the court again.
  • Austin Daye got some time at shooting guard Sunday.
  • If you are in a keeper league, seriously think about giving Dante Cunningham a flier.  With the loss of Oden, Portland is getting thin and Cunningham might get some minutes.
  • Andrei Kirilenko is having some back problems, so avoid him in daily games until he shows some consistency.
  • Ben Gordon is trying to play through an ankle injury and it’s causing a decrease in his minutes.  Avoid him for a few games, especially if Hamilton returns.  Detroit could hold Gordon out for a few to let the ankle heal properly.
  • Jrue Holiday suffered a strained rotator cuff.  Probably irrelevant as Iverson is sending Holiday to the bench anyway.
  • It doesn’t look like Nate Robinson is getting off the bench any time soon.  [NYDailyNews.com]
  • Marreese Speights’ rehab is progressing as expected and he might make it back mid-January.  [Philly.com]
  • Rudy Fernandez is dealing with back pain and is out for Monday.
  • Andris Biedrins may be close to returning.  He will make the 5 game road trip with the team starting Monday.  [The San Francisco Chronicle]
  • I’ve been resisting the lure of Carl Landry, but the attraction is getting stronger.  Check your waiver wire to see if he is still out there.
  • Danny Granger re-injured his right heel and will have an MRI.  I haven’t seen results anywhere yet, so keep an eye on the situation.
  • StraightOuttaVancouver.com is running a series of articles profiling the Grizzlies reserves, beginning with Marcus Williams.
  • Jamaal Magliore looks to be the primary backup to Jermaine O’Neal.  Magliore got good minutes on Sunday with O’Neal missing to attend to a family matter.  Keep this in mind if O’Neal goes down.
  • CanisHoopus.com with a good statistical breakdown of the Timberwolves team and player performances after 20 games.
