Friday Fantasy News 10/16/09

I’m setting up a Fantasy Basketball Daily League and I’ll post the details later this afternoon if anyone wants to play.   I’m debating on whether to give a keeper league a try.  If you are a serious year round hardcore basketball fan and interested in a keeper league, shoot me an email (mail icon on the homepage).

BasketballProspectus.com examines how replacement refs might affect NBA statistics this season.  If you are in a fantasy league that counts free throws made, you might want to seek out a couple of studs and dominate the category.  If you are handicapping games, also keep an eye out for good ‘over’ opportunities.

Washington Post reports that Antawn Jamison has a partially dislocated shoulder and will get another checkup next week after the swelling goes down.  He will miss the remainder of preseason.  Grab Andray Blatche if you need a fill-in for Jamison.

Shawn Marion will sit out the next 7-10 days with a strained right calf, but says he will be ready for opening day.

Dime Magazine Top 10 Fantasy Power Forward Rankings and Analysis.

Luis Scola rested his sprained ankle and did not play in last night’s preseason game.  Doesn’t look too serious and he should still be a great draft pick since he has center status in some leagues and will probably pick it up soon in others.

IndyCornrows.com with a look at the SG battle in Indiana between Brandon Rush and Dahntay Jones.  IndyStar.com article on Dahntay Jones.

Lamar Odom left last night’s game with an injury to his right leg.  Odom says he got kicked on the muscle in his right shin and that it should be fine.  I’m still not really liking Odom this season with Bynum healthy and Artest in the mix, as well as the new drama that will undoubtably follow him and the Kardashian circus.  I have seen some talk though of Jackson putting Odom, Gasol and Bynum on the court at the same time against bigger lineups.

Dwyane Wade returned last night from his rib injury but had to leave in the third quarter with a calf bruise.  Also, as much as I hate to admit it, Michael Beasley looked great and is creeping up the draft rankings.  You know the risks with Beasley, but the Heat just don’t have the option to sit him.

JSOnline.com reviews the rotation and distribution of playing time in Milwaukee.

There seems to be some trouble developing in Milwaukee between Jonny Flynn and Ramon SessionsTom Ziller of Fanhouse.com reports that the two are having a difficult time playing together, as neither seems to be well suited to play SG.  I would think that Flynn gets the bench here, but Sessions is losing some value if Flynn starts stealing minutes.

FanHouse.com previews Michael Beasley and previews Leandro Barbosa.

Cleveland Cavaliers catch a break and become the first team to be attacked by the flu.  Every team is going to have to deal with this.  What better time than preseason?

In the ‘Zzone reports that Jarvis Hayes will miss some time with a stress reaction in his right tibia.  Hayes was slotted to be the starting SF for awhile and it is unclear if he will now start.  I think he does get decent minutes for the first couple of months until the Nets finally decide to see what they have in Terrence Williams.

RotoSynthesis with a review of NBA.com’s ‘NBA Stock Exchange’ fantasy game.  I played this last season and it is a fun concept, but it requires daily attention.
