Monday Fantasy News 10/5/09

Keep an eye on Marquis Daniels in Boston.  Rivers has him slotted to see time at three different positions and he looks like the top backup to Ray Allen and Paul Pierce.  Allen and Pierce are getting older, so keeping them fresh for the playoffs would be wise.  Daniels will come off the bench, but might be one of those reserves who gets starters minutes.  A great later round roster filler.

I’ve been seeing a lot of talk of Jarvis Hayes getting the starting SF spot in New Jersey.  I don’t really like the move, I think the Nets will be so bad that they should probably just throw Terrence Williams out there and let him grow.  Or maybe this is just one of those backdoor attempts to show how much they need a real SF (LeBron anyone?).  NetsAreScorching.com has an excellent scouting report on Jarvis Hayes.  If he does get the starting job, he might be worth a late round selection to fill out your bench.

Bucks Diary with a review of the defensive abilities of each of the Bucks players.  While defense isn’t usually a concern of most fantasy players, I like to make it a priority to get a feel for the daily situations and matchups when choosing my roster.  You will probably find more defense based articles on my site than on most other fantasy basketball sites.  If you are in a season long rotisserie league then defense isn’t quite so important, but for H2H and Daily fantasy games it is often the the most important factor to consider.

Miami Herald reports that Michael Beasley will likely move to Small Forward this season with Udonis Haslem taking over the Power Forward spot.  Pretty much as expected since there really isn’t anyone else who can man the spot as well as Beasley.  If the move holds, Haslem will make a nice mid round pick.  He is a solid rebounder and could be a dependable double/double guy.

DallasNews.com on the Center battle in Dallas:  “Drew Gooden and Erick Dampier are co-starters, for the moment”, Carlisle said. “They’re both going to be key guys for us,” he said. “Both guys will be starters at certain times and the key thing is, regardless of who’s starting, that they’re working in lockstep with what we need from that position. I love both those guys. They’re both pros and really good team guys. And they both want to win.”

Boston Herald on the physical health of Jermaine O’Neal.

Video of Kevin Garnett limping through practice.  That video isn’t very encouraging.  The main thing I noticed is that Garnett is really overcompensating and stressing his healthy leg and back to compensate for his bad knee, which usually leads to an injury in another part of the body.
