NBA Fantasy All-Star Game Weekend (2/20/11)

Hope you guys are all enjoying your NBA All-Star Weekend.  Can you believe that the season is already two-thirds over?  It should be an entertaining game tonight at 8:00 pm EST on TNT, so get your popcorn ready.  Not much fantasy news going on this weekend, but I couldn’t resist checking in with a few interesting things from around the web.

Fanskills.com – The daily fantasy game scene is really growing right now and the newest site on the block is Fanskills.com.  My friend Brandon developed the site from ideas he gathered as a player on other daily sites and I think he has some great ideas for daily fantasy.  The games at Fanskills.com don’t go fully active until April, but they are already taking signups on their homepage.  There will be some free money available for guys getting signed up early, so get over there and register for free!

Deron Williams (UTA) – Williams appears to be the NBA’s next problem child.  He’s clearly unhappy in Utah and probably had a big hand in running Jerry Sloan out of town.   A CBS Sports article this morning speculated on the possibility of Williams wanting to join Stoudemire in New York.  As a Knicks fan, I’d love to see this, but as an NBA fan I’m not sure that another Melo/LeBron type drama is good for the league.  At some point, the fans are going to get really tired of this attention ploy by the stars and there will undoubtably be a backlash.  Speaking of backlash, I think I even saw somewhere that LeBron James was tired of the Melo speculation, which is awesome.

All-Star Contests – Congrats to Blake Griffin for winning the dunk contest, James Jones for winning the three point shooting contest, John Wall for winning MVP of the Rookie/Sophomore game and Stephen Curry for winning the NBA Skills Challenge.

Justin Bieber – And in what had to be the biggest surprise of the weekend, Justin Bieber actually has some basketball skills.  Believe it or not,  I actually found myself watching basketball with my 7 year old daughter.  It’s the only time she’s even shown a remote interest in watching basketball with me.  Ok, she was watching Bieber while I was watching basketball, but still, I’ll take it.

New York-Denver Trade Negotiations – Supposedly the Knicks want to send everyone but Stoudemire to Denver in exchange for Billups and Melo.  It’s a great deal for the Knicks, but why would the Nuggets want to put the Knicks team (without Stoudemire) on the floor in Denver?  That group of guys is still a sub .500 team, no matter where you play them.   Denver already has a Landry Fields (Aaron Afflalo), a Raymond Felton (Ty Lawson) and a Danilo Gallinari (J.R. Smith), all for cheaper salary than what the Knicks guys are making.   Timofey Mozsgov and Eddy Curry are just useless contracts and offer nothing but end of the bench possibilities.  I could be wrong (and I hope I am as a Knicks fan), but I don’t really see this trade going through.  Of course, how good would a big three of Deron Williams or Chris Paul, Melo and Stoudemire look in New York?

Rumors – Rumor has it that the Hawks are shopping Marvin Williams, the Bobcats are still shopping Stephen Jackson and Troy Murphy could end up with the Warriors, Cavs or Magic.

Enjoy the rest of your All-Star Weekend and I’ll see you guys on Wednesday for a review of Tuesday night’s NBA action.
