Thursday Fantasy News 10/8/09

Beginning Monday, ‘Fantasy News and Notes’ will move to the tabbed positions on the homepage.   For example, if you click the ‘Point Guard’ tab you will be taken to the rankings list and daily news page for individual point guards.   Now that we are starting to get some games, the blog will contain the ‘Daily Boxscore Review’ which will cover the previous night’s games and statistics and track fantasy performances and trends.  It’s still preseason for me too and I’m trying to to figure out my starting lineup.

There may be trouble brewing in Portland for Andre Miller.  Nate McMillan intends to bring Miller and Oden off the bench with the second team and it sounds like Miller isn’t buying in to that philosophy.  Miller’s fantasy stock isn’t looking quite as good as it did this summer.

Delonte West has left the Cavaliers again.  I like West as a fantasy player, but right now I just can’t advise spending more than a last round pick on him.  Daniel Gibson and Anthony Parker may be worth a flier if West is going to miss major time.

D’Antoni doesn’t seem to like Nate Robinson and I’m guessing the feeling may become mutual after seeing those comments by the coach.  D’Antoni basically told Nate he didn’t get paid cause he’s immature.   This certainly doesn’t help Nate’s fantasy value.  D’Antoni has enough players to work Robinson’s minutes down to the level where he becomes non-playable in fanasy leagues.

NetsAreScorching.com examines the Shooting Guard battle in New JerseyCourtney Lee is dealing with an ankle problem right now and I think he wins the job, but having Chris Douglas-Roberts wouldn’t be terrible either, especially as a 6th man.  I expect Terrance Williams to get his shot at SF by December.

Iverson is expecting to miss 3 weeks with a torn hamstring.  I’m a little older than Iverson and I can tell you it will probably take a 34 year old longer than 3 weeks to return from that injury.  It’s probably going to bother him for months.

Gilbert Arenas has been nursing a finger injury which may explain his below average shooting performance this preseason.

GiveMeTheRock.com demonstrates how to build a rotisserie team around Dwight Howard.

Greg Oden has had a couple of nice games and is making a case to start the opener.  Was the recent injury history just bad luck or a chronic trend for Oden?  Centers always take the longest to mature and learn the game.  He makes a great upside potential pick.  I’ve seen him fall to the very late rounds in a couple of drafts.

Monta Ellis turned an ankle in last nights game.  Not sure how serious it is, but I’ll check back on it in a couple of days.

Are the Kings just stupid?  Tyreke Evans has an injury serious enough to cause swelling and require an MRI and they let him back on the court the next day for full contact drills?  What’s the hurry? Just shut him down for a few days and let someone else handle the point.  It’s preseason.  Eager college age kids don’t know any better, but management should.
