Fantasy Basketball 2010-2011 Team Preview: Dallas Mavericks (9/18/10)

Mark Cuban is determined to win a title, but his time is running short and the window may close soon.   The Mavericks have all the major pieces back from last season’s 55-27 club and should be able to approach 55 wins again this year.  Jason Kidd will start at point guard, but he will be sharing minutes once Rodrigue Beaubois gets healthy.  I’ve seen some rumors that Caron Butler will be starting at shooting guard with Shawn Marion moving into the starting small forward spot.    Of course Dirk Nowitzki will start at power forward.  Brendan Haywood and Tyson Chandler will platoon at center.  If all that talent weren’t enough, the Mavericks have Jason Terry and J. J. Barea coming off the bench.  It should be a good year in Dallas.

Projected Fantasy Depth Chart
PG:  Jason Kidd, Rodrigue Beaubois, J.J. Barea
SG:  Caron Butler, Jason Terry, Deshawn Stevenson
SF:  Shawn Marion
PF:  Dirk Nowitzki, Alexis Ajinca
C:  Brendan Haywood, Tyson Chandler, Ian Mahinmi

Fantasy Basketball 2010-2011 Team Preview: Washington Wizards (9/17/10)

The Washington Wizards have a few nice young fantasy prospects, but the team overall is going to be very weak.   Last season the Wizards had the Gilbert Arenas gun incident and chose to trade off Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, while keeping Arenas who was the actual root of the problem.  On top of that, they drafted John Wall to play the same position that Arenas occupies.   It’s going to be an interesting situation.  Wall should get the starting point guard spot with Arenas moving to shooting guard.  Kirk Hinrich will be the sixth man and backup both positions.  Al Thornton should start at small forward with Andray Blatche getting the nod at power forward.  JaVale McGee will get first shot at the starting center job.

Projected Fantasy Depth Chart
PG:  John Wall, Kirk Hinrich
SG:  Gilbert Arenas, Nick Young
SF:  Al Thornton, Josh Howard
PF:  Andray Blatche, Yi Jianlian, Trevor Booker
C:  JaVale McGee, Hilton Armstrong

Fantasy Basketball 2010-2011 Team Preview: Orlando Magic (9/16/10)

The Magic didn’t make any big moves this offseason and the usual dependable fantasy options remain in place for the 2010-2011 season.  Jameer Nelson will start at point guard, but he’s going to be pushed a bit by Chris Duhon.  Duhon is a good facilitator and can effectively run the offense.  Vince Carter will start at shooting guard, but J. J. Redick is making a bid for more playing time and Carter isn’t getting any younger.  There is a battle at small forward between Quentin Richardson and Mickael Pietrus, which will probably turn into a platoon with neither player being very attractive.  Rashard Lewis will get the starting power forward spot and Dwight Howard will run the show at center.  Brandon Bass and Marcin Gortat are the big men off the bench.  Below are the relevant stats used to figure out the best options at each position for the Magic.  Comments are welcome on the Fantasy Basketball Daily Facebook Page.

Projected Fantasy Depth Chart
PG:  Jameer Nelson, Chris Duhon
SG:  Vince Carter, J. J. Redick
SF:  Mickael Pietrus, Quentin Richardson
PF:  Rashard Lewis, Brandon Bass
C:  Dwight Howard, Marcin Gortat

Fantasy Basketball 2010-2011 Team Preview: Charlotte Bobcats (9/15/10)

The Charlotte Bobcats lost Raymond Felton over the summer and now must choose a point guard from either D. J. Augustin or Shaun Livingston.   There were some earlier rumors about Jose Calderon joining the club, but his defense is so horrible that I think he just has no shot in Charlotte.  The Bobcats were the top rated defensive team in the league in 2009.  Stephen Jackson will start at SG, Gerald Wallace at SF and Tyrus Thomas at PF.  Erick Dampier was just waived, so the center position is uncertain.  Kwame Brown and Nazr Mohammed could share minutes at the spot.  Jackson and Wallace are the dependable fantasy options, while Thomas and Augustin make for nice fantasy gambles in the later rounds.  Post your comments over on the Fantasy Basketball Daily Facebook Page.

Projected Fantasy Depth Chart
PG:  D. J. Augustin, Shaun Livingston
SG:  Stephen Jackson, Gerald Henderson, Matt Carroll
SF:  Gerald Wallace, Dominic McGuire
PF:  Tyrus Thomas, Boris Diaw
C:  Kwame Brown, Nazr Mohammed

Fantasy Basketball 2010-2011 Team Preview: Atlanta Hawks (9/13/10)

The Hawks didn’t make many changes this offseason and the fantasy options on the team should perform very similarly to last season.  The biggest change to the club was the firing of Mike Woodson, who was replaced by Larry Drew.  I’ve read a few reports that indicate that Drew is trying to implement more of a motion offense and hoping to cut down on the isolation plays, which isn’t good for Joe Johnson owners.  Mike Bibby should return to the starting point guard spot, but Jeff Teague is making a claim for more playing time.  Joe Johnson will start at SG, Marvin Williams at SF, Josh Smith at PF and Al Horford at C.  Jamal Crawford will again be the team’s valuable sixth man.  Johnson, Smith and Horford are all top fantasy options this year.

Projected Fantasy Depth Chart
PG:  Mike Bibby, Jeff Teague
SG:  Joe Johnson, Jamal Crawford
SF:  Marvin Williams, Maurice Evans
PF:  Josh Smith
C:  Al Horford, Zaza Pachulia, Etan Thomas
